About

I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, this is my almost daily art journal, eccentric and eclectic, explorative and absurd.

Over the next few months, i will be moving my blog in entirety to my new space. Please stay tuned for the final shifting, sometime in July of 2010. FyberSpace Shop Slow Cloth on Facebook

A Shoe of the Special

Sophie's postcards for  exchange inspired the colours and my recent brush with Manolo fired the design. This was pure fun and joy!  A light hearted look at an expensive and desirable shoe. Seed beads, chandelier crystal, metallic threads, appliqued rayon on quilted polyester satin. Finished size 12"x12". For sale to the discerning customer :>

How did you do that stitching? It has an embossed effect that looks fantastic.

Free motion embroidery as quilting! Used 2 layers of padding for depth.

Funny - the picture looks to me as though the stitching is raised and not sunk as I imagine it really is - the tricks of the mind or perhaps it's the shadows making it look that way.

Wow, Arlee! I love the colours and the texture you've created in the quilting. I'd love a pair of shoes like that!
