About

I am a Canadian mixed media artist, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated.

random play

I took my least favourite piece from yesterday's fabric paper experiments and with no thought or plan, just stitched and quilted. I wanted to see the effect, to know how to handle it. It's really no different than using something like a taffeta i suppose--you get a lovely crunchy sound as the needle punches through and the manoeuvre-ability is good because of the stiffness and weight. First i outline stitched the colour areas, then layered a high loft batting underneath and did some random swirly quilting, mundane but good to see the effect. The unquilted areas are really quite high, reminds me somewhat of Vancouver Island from a bird's eye view! I might add a bit of beading sporadically placed to simulate trees but this was really just a test piece, so nothing very spectacular resulting.

I think i have an idea for the purpley one, involving leaves and ice, cutting it apart and doing some "gilding" of some sort, whether with stitching or more paint i'm not sure yet. The copper one will be last---as my favourite, i want to be sure of what i do first!

The big piece i did is still gathering momentum.
