About

I am a Canadian mixed media artist, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated.

Exquisite Corpse Round Robin project proposal

Are you familiar with the Exquisite Corpse excercise? "One strategy the surrealists used to elicit imagery from the unconscious is called the "Exquisite Corpse." In this collaborative art form, a piece of paper was folded in four, and four different artists contributed to the representation of a figure without seeing the other artists' contributions. The first drew the head, folded the paper over and passed it on to the next, who drew the torso;
 the third drew the legs, and the fourth, the feet. The artists then unfolded the paper to study and interpret the combined figure."  from Encarta: IV. Surrealist Techniques
(If you want to add to the online Exquisite Corpse poem, go to http://www.languageisavirus.com/exquisitecorpse/poem.html  I added "crenellated", but it looks as though you could actually add a phrase rather than just one word.)

 I was thinking each person could divide a chunk of fabric into quarters (assuming there are 4 players), then stitch, bead, destruct, paint whatever !:}! one quarter, cover the done quarter with a piece of fabric stitched around the edges to hide the work done, leaving half an inch at the boundaries so the next "player" can "join" the imagery but without seeing the subject, then passing it on, again hiding the new quarter. A general "theme" might be a useful thing but open to any interpretation or technique!!!! I'll post a photo too later to show what i mean, as this may not be clear :} I need at least three other players at this point but i'm open to any number of participants! Each person would start one, then mail to the next so we'd have a bunch in circulation. If i get 6 players, the fabric will be divided in 6ths--get the general idea???? I think this would be a fascinating way to start the new year with something really different.

I too am considering it. If the surface to work on is not too large, I'm in.

I'd love to join in on this, but it looks like I'm a day late, as the sign-up deadline was yesterday. We've been moving house since Jan 1st and I just got back online today. Would love to participate if you can squeeze me in...

Hi there,
I tried to join in one of these via a flickr.com textile art group last week but never got a response. Today I found you. I'm sorry our paths didn't cross sooner. I'd have loved to join in but now I've missed the deadline it seems.
