About

I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, this is my almost daily art journal, eccentric and eclectic, explorative and absurd.

Guidelines for Exquisite Corpse RR

Because i have given until Jan 15th to sign up for this, there's not much you can do to start until you know how many pieces to divide your fabrics! Start sketching and auditioning, peoples :}

1. You can't show your completed segment! Because the idea is for the next participant to work only with the edges of the previous piece(s), they CANNOT see what you have already done.  I will be posting a photo of the way this is done as i'm  sure some  aren't getting what i mean :} When the entire fabric is completed, the receiver can show the results :}

2. You will have 5 weeks to do your section. Because this is an international effort, remember mailing times and possible screwups by postal services. If you cannot complete your section, or cannot do it at all, due to other  circumstances, MAIL IT ANYWAYS, the sooner the better, to the next player.   Anyone who habitually commits this sin will be removed from play. I'm not being mean--it's not fair to the others! You are responsible for keeping track of your times==i use a Google calendar that allows me to send emailed or popup reminders to myself. I will send out a reminder every two weeks however. If you have any guilty feelings about the cost of postage as it goes along ( as i know i'm going to!), send a little "suthin' suthin'" for the next player. This isn't ABSOLUTE, just a polite and friendly thought :} Please email the next person and myself also so they know it's coming!

3. Nitty Gritty stuff----any technique, just follow each recipients theme or colours choice----to prevent confusion, please write this on a back edge of the fabric so there are no lost communications with this. You have free scope to do whatever you like in your area. Please think of dimension though===too much sticky-out-bits will make a thick heavy package to be mailed around, also adding to the cost. Each section will be 6x6 inches, no matter how many players--this gives enough scope to be creative and manageable! The whole should have a plain border so the "owner" can frame or attach to something or whattever. Each person will start their own piece, then mail to next in line, who will add to an area that touches its boundaries, who than mails it to next, etc--that is the idea of the Exquisite Corpse--you are adding to the previous player(s) artwork. The first person can start in ANY one of the grid areas--doesn't have to be a corner. Again i will post photos to illustrate.

So far, including myself, we have 6 committed. If i hear from others i will split into groups of no more than 6 each; you may be in a group of 4-6 then. On Jan 15th i will email to everyone with snail mails and colour/theme choices. I hope none of this has scared anyone off :} Photos of method will be added as a FOLLOW UP to THIS ENTRY so please bookmark--all of this info will also come as an email at the proper time.

I would like to participate if you receive some more entries.

I'm not accomplished at this as the rest of you are. I'm a gourd artist though and fairly creative.

I'm really looking forward to this (gulp). I know I need to stretch my horizons and this is certainly going to do it. I can't wait!

I think I understand this a little bit more now. The only thing I wanted to confirm is that we all had to choose a theme, does this mean that everyone who i send my piece of fabric to has to interpret my theme? I then interpret theirs in turn?
If this is so, might it be a good idea to know who is in my group? Then we can plan ahead. (apologies if this has already been done!)
Thanks

Yes, they will interpret yours and you will interpret theirs. I won't be sending out a list until the 15th when the signup closes.

Hi, Thanks for all your emails. It was just a misunderstanding on my part thinking that the posting day was the 23rd. Now i know it has to arrive with the next person by that date - it most certainly will :-) I havent recieved anything by snailmail yet, so I dont know yet whom im posting to. Hope your well, Bev x
