About

I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, this is my almost daily art journal, eccentric and eclectic, explorative and absurd.

undamnit-ing the day :}

The piece that is giving my problems has been shoved put aside to rot percolate. Thanks for the comments about knowing when to stop--i rush things when it's going right and the rush sometimes precipitates near disasters!

I've been thinking about my piles of UFO's the last few nights after going to bed. I have a box of Christmas stuff, mostly sewn but not stuffed YuleGhouls and some stuffed bodies that never went anywhere. I had a vision epiphany idea last night about the fattened ones :}

Here's the stage they were packed away as:

predoll.jpg

Why not paint the bodies??????Ii loved that rose print years ago, still do, have none left, but as a body kind of boring.

May i introduce "Dahlia" from the Tribes of One:

And i got to use up some bits i was "saving for good".  (When is that i wonder---for decorating my coffin?????) I still have about 6 of these bodies left, hence "Tribes of One"--i can see a mini-series happening!

If you can't see the photos when you visit this entry or my pages, try hitting the "refresh" button on your toolbar--thanks to MaryAnne for reminding me of this!!!

Speaking of whom--i received two beautiful ATCs yesterday from the darling girl, along with some choice bits of fabric, charms and buttons-----for my birthday! MaryAnne, you *are* a doll too :} The f-me pink velveteen is to die for!!!!!!!!! Photos later, i promise!

I'm still having problems finding a Real Life group for artists of like mind--i emailed Helga who runs ArtChix (In Victoria, 13k down the road, for goodness sakes) and she suggested i try the Cloth Dollaholics bunch--hopefully they will be better at answering emails than the Guild was! I need some Face Time with people!!!!!

Greyman will be home soon, after 3 days away--have to pick up the messes the cats and i have made all over the house! I always thought it was just him who was the slob:} HA! Ha! HA!

Saw her on flickr & thought "What a gorgeous print". Face time: I know what you mean. I could easily become a hermit with a keyboard. However, if I ever move back to the Island, you realize we may become inseparable. You, me, fabric, beads, paint, yak-yak-yak – busy for days!

Dahlia is very cool,great idea to us those special pieces on a mini series..
With those lovely red flowers she would be a perfect rep for the Garden Tribe:)

All i can say is WOW Arlee, these are so fab.I love her, the colours are ace and I LOVE her hair. Well done. i hope you can find some 3D people to work with, i know exactly what you mean, i am very luck with my college course and the group some of the girls set up for themselves teaching each other, it is a great way to have some interaction between artists.Best of luck!

Dahlia doll is gorgeous. I adore her (of course purple is one of my fav colours so that might help explain it). YuleGhouls? My imagination is in overdrive envisioning those!

DH thinks I lost it again when I chortled over the 'saving it for your coffin' bit'. How true though...why are we so afraid to actually use our treasures and insist on keeping them for something 'better' that might (or might not) come along?
