another Mutability piece just about done!
Wed, November 19, 2008 at 9:29AM All i have left to do on the Neuron piece is figure out an edge treatment. I want to preserve the fraying and rawness, because they tie in nicely to the "nerve endings", but be able to enclose and hide the back. I don't know about you, but even though i was taught to make the back as neat as the front, i never do! I remember a male friend in the SCA who did the most exquisite hardanger work and you couldn't tell the front from the back except with a magnifying glass!
I added a few more elements to the background as well. I've been hoarding the dozen orange/red Swarovski bi-cone crystals for a couple of years, and found they were perfect for this. I also used the burgundy-blood freshwater pearls that MaryAnne sent me---also PERFECT for this one. Thanks MA!
The two embroidered thingies were done over a cardboard "ring" to lift the threads and define the shapes. Love this technique and will also be using it on some of the Hoodoo works (which i AM still working on :}). I cut them from cereal box weight cardboard and coloured them first with a black magic marker. (The blue circle on the main area was done over an old washer.)
I decided after much angst through my dreams that the previous entry's piece will not be going to the CyberFybre show. I don't know why it turned cute, far from the original intent. I may cut it into pieces and send it out to be worked on as a personal Exquisite Corpse! I would still like to do a piece that incorporates a lot of things that internet friends have sent me over the past 4 years, and may be able to do this with a second Mutability piece worked from this sketch:

Idea for an edge treatment/back cover...what if....another layer of fabric on the back with the edge stitched a bit inside and then *both* layers frayed?? Arrghh...I'm not explaining it very well am I? Can you crawl inside my mind and see the picture??
