About

I am a Canadian mixed media artist, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart.

No offense intended, but please do not tag me or give me awards. A comment is much more appreciated than being lumped in with 11tybajillion other peoples, as an automatic response.

Orange=saffron, popsicle orange, creamsicle orange, orange orange, mature pumpkin,flaming orange, sunset orange. Orange goes with purple and red ---of course!---with black with a slice of magenta so it doesn't look like halloween, orange and charcoal, orange and creams and ivories and unsalted butter, with moss and slate and indigo, with cobalt and chocolate and copper, rust, bronze, old gold, new gold, pewter and tarnished silver. See? It *does* go with everything.

skill sets (again?)

burnish Verb to make or become shiny or smooth by friction; polish [Old French brunir to make brown]

Who knew something so simple could create such dramatics on a piece of metal? Thank you Karin, my lovely EnglishCalgarian Rose for suggesting this---it's definitely going in the repertoire! Sometimes i still amaze myself with what i don't know..... And to MaryAnne too, my snowy Ontarion darling, your input was very valuable as well!

The new machine has a name now. Pronounced thusly: La--Loj (soft j like in frommage). My Lovely Assistant Lalage is learning new skills as well and i'm sure she's happy as she keeps on biting through whatever i feed her and happily spitting it out in perfection. The only thing i'm worried about is that when i bought her, the salesperson told me i could use only plastic bobbins as it would somehow interfere with the workings in/near the bobbin case. It doesn't mention it anywhere in the manual, and nowhere on line can i find that fact---i'm just hoping that sewing through metal doesn't screw things up! I'm also hoping that the caution is a proprietary one---maybe they just want people to use their bobbins only! It was supplied with 2 brands of needles, so i do wonder.

It's comforting to know that Emmy too is nervous about CybreFybre----those of us who are participating as invited artists are not all with a lot of confidence yet! To be in such exalted company as Maggie Grey alone is enough to make me toss my chachkas! I have a case of stress hives! I think maybe that faith in ourselves is a skill set as well!!! And THANK YOU Patricia for your sisboom rah boot in the pants yesterday :}

I spent most of the morning trying to figure out how to integrate my pieces so they become one cogent work----what a production! I sampled, i pinned, i auditioned, i tried colours, textures and weights, i cried. Finally a piece of fabric jumped out at me and that has done it. Now there's rhyme and reason for the whole. At first i wasn't even going to use the piece i had sent photos of to my "critics", but once that fabric was underneath, it fit. WHEW! I'm finally in the finishing groove--though there's much to be done yet. I hope i don't have to work tomorrow!!!!!

I saw the press release but I'm still not sure what cyber fibre is.
I love that blue on red circle.

woohoo! The baby has a name (and a very nice one too).
Now, as for the hives and the chachka tossing...shall we all get together and buy a case (or two) of Pepto and calamine lotion for Arlee? Pink dots might be a whole new seasonal sensation.

The more I learn the more questions I have! People who know everything scare me. Except my kids...they know EVERYTHING!

I know exactely what you mean Arlee, it is very exiting but also scary. I brought my piece to the post office today; so no sneak peak, but I changed my mind twice about the piece. Too late now:-) Let's hope it is gonna be a wonderfull show!
