About

I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, this is my almost daily art journal, eccentric and eclectic, explorative and absurd.

Cybre Fybre teasers

Cybre Fybre is an actual, live, in the flesh exhibit that will be happening in South Carolina at a real gallery in January---Susan Lenz contacted several artists last year and invited 19 to participate directly. There was also an ATC and postcard trade that will be set up as well. The idea is that without the internet, none of us would have met, been exposed to such a plethora of techniques and projects, never would have shared common interests and gripes, never would have exchanged art with the whole world. The internet obviously then does NOT "de-humanize" us/artists.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's so exciting to see little snippets of news and teeny teaser photos of works completed for the CybreFybre show! If you take a cruise around, you'll see some tantalizing examples!
Doreen and her grand-daughter Ebony
Maggie Grey
Emmy Schoonbeek
I tried searching for other examples, but i guess some of the artists are playing it close to the chest :}
And you've already seen a few snippets of mine! I've incorporated some bits sent by blogging friends, as they were not only perfect for the piece, but show the instrumental process of learning and sharing i've had with my internet experiences. If it weren't for the Cybre, my Fybre would not be nearly as interesting or exploratory! I'd probably still be doing machine applique and very unhappy........I felt SO alone when i started blogging, but gradually over the past 4 and a half years, have met some fabulous people, some incredible artists, and learned SO much! I'm not in an "isolated" area anymore, though it's been extremely difficult to meet local like-minded artists. Fortunately, i have one here, Karin Millson, and i depend heavily on certain cybre friends as well. (you *know* who you are, my darling MA, P, M, J, D and S :})
So here are a few more T'n'A shots for you. (That would be Tantalizing Art, my dears :})
Are the holes in the metal from stitching? It almost looks melted, I love the effect and can't wait to see the whole thing.
I'd like to be an artist but think I'm a putterer.
The whole Cyber fiber thing is very exciting!
And those little teasers you post are scrummylicious. That new baby of yours seems to be loving the metal. I want to try metal--maybe next year.
And yes, the metal is stitched--Lalage LOVES biting through that stuff and just purrs along---so nice when the tools are happy too!
These bits are so INTERESTING. Colours, handstitching, and the metal, especially where it is almost all holes. ( I am so scared to try it on my machine - I'm going to get out an old Riccar from behind the furniture in the spare bedroom and try it on that!). I'm watching it all, can't wait for the 'reveal'.
arlee your entry for CybreFybre is just so amazing that i stop breathing when i look at it. I agree with Susan above, it looks like melted metal, it's so beautiful. What is your theme based upon, or have you told us already and i've forgotten. And thankyou for telling us about Cybre Fybre, as i am another fibre artist working in isolation it is heart warming to click into others. cheers, and your envelope has started it's wanders.
The edges of those metals are fabulous. And likewise with the friendship and support.
The piece looks wonderful, so far and I know that it's only the beginning. Are you going to share your metal work techniques? Or perhaps you've already done so, and I just wasn't checking your blog at the time. What weight and what type? Inquiring minds want to know. Please and thank you.
