About

I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, this is my almost daily art journal, eccentric and eclectic, explorative and absurd.

i got nuttin'....

We drove to Tofino on Sat and have paid for it since! An unfamiliarly large and uncomfortable rental car played havoc with Greyman's neck and shoulder, and my back. Both of us have been knocking back pain killers and muscle relaxants (on doctor advice) and sleeping a LOT to heal! That means missed work too unfortunately...

However, we got killer shots of waves, though not as spectacular as we had hoped--we had actually wanted the weather to be rotten, as that's when the surf and surge there is AwesomeScarey!

About the only thing i've done is round up all the mail that has to go out, and start using a plain cotton knit shirt as a sopcloth. It'll be a good wearable when done, shades of the "albedo carryall" even :}

Got new glasses too and now don't see like this with these:

Those are also the infamous "watermelon pants" :}

Now i see like this with these, and my studio pants are cooler too :}

Red with rhinestones guarantees Greyman won't "borrow" them for work!

Do you suppose this cat's Momma went around the block with a Lynx? We had stopped at a gas station in Tofino and there were dozens of crows and half a dozen kitties battling over our muffin scraps.

Look at the colours and patterns in this! Part of a kelp wash up at Long Beach, surely an inspiration shot waiting for textile interpretation!

And reading about these on Red Threads, i had to drag out the Tibetan Panel coat i made in '84. After almost a quarter of a century, it's held together reasonably well, but needs a wee bit of repair and perhaps some new additions as well. Most of it was done by hand as i was learning about quilting at the time, and having a baby then meant noise kept to a minimum!

Full shots of this coat are in my Gallery pages, in the Wearable Art section. (And boy does the whole Gallery for this blog need redoing!!!!!!!)

I can point you to a Canadian artist,Stephanie Bush, who does some work in fibre, but what i'm in love with are her paintings of mysterious figures wrapped and swaddled in a riot of colour, pattern and texture.

Other than that, creativity or excitement wise, i got nuttin'.

Arlee,

I thought my husband and I were the only ones who deliberately sought out bad weather in hopes of excitement. We have something in common with you and Greyman.

oooh...red glasses. I'm shopping for new ones right now and have already picked out two pairs of red ones I like. There must be a trend towards that colour? Right now I'm wearing my old (as in two presc'ns old) ones and am looking through a blur of scratches which is NOT fun. Roll on income tax refund so I can get my new ones!!

Can't wait to see what you do with the kelp wash inspiration!
