About

I am a Canadian mixed media artist, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated.

framing possibilities

The framework of the wicker chests is more useful than i thought! I got three pieces by taking it apart: the top frame, the lid and the bottom. The wood has been dovetailed at the corners, but may need  L brackets for stability, and is stained irregularly in brown and purple, depending i guess on how much dye penetrated after they wrapped the rattan around. May have to varathane it to seal that! (I'm also tempted to wet them and let it seep into some fabric too :})

First, i thought of doing the textile work on each piece and then "stacking" them in a shadow box effect---i could use diifferent techniques or densities to create open or more arresting areas in each frame, letting the eye pass through. (All the rattan will be removed, not keeping it solid as it shows here, haven't stripped it all yet.)

Or how about a Byobu screen? Lots of scope for design  here too, perhaps combining several techniques?

Or a vessel? Lampshade? New basket shape? Art figure? Turn it on its end?

At any rate, it means more cording needed :} That's probably all i'll be doing in the next couple of days, as that's all that's left out now!

I would imagine i'll get one more posting in or maybe two short ones, before the move (5 more sleeps!), and then i'll probably be offline for at least a week to ten days--that's gonna be real tough!!!!!!!!!! I'll miss ya all, and will try to check in on my email and the ECRR CorpseMistresses.

I'm here (as my grandson informed me at my front door yesterday.) Swamped with BM fabric, patterns with no instructions and girls who insist on changing shape almost daily. Very little hair or temper left esp as it continues to be as hot as Hades. Loving every little thing you are doing, especially the cording and looking fwd to development of the rattan. Love across the universe. M XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
