About

I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, this is my almost daily art journal, eccentric and eclectic, explorative and absurd.

Over the next few months, i will be moving my blog in entirety to my new space. Please stay tuned for the final shifting, sometime in July of 2010. FyberSpace Shop Slow Cloth on Facebook

correcting an oops

I was just about to mail my postcard and atcs to Susan for the Cybre Fybre trade, when i realized something looked off about them--the atcs are too small!!!! For some reason, i have been doing mine for more than a year as 2x3" instead of 2 and 1/2 by 3 and 1/2 as they should be!!!!

I quickly dug through the Components Box and managed to create these three this morning as replacements!

The one above and the one below were made from a textile bracelet i made a couple of years ago and never finished; it was also my first experiment with using copper.

This one below is some recently stamped and stencilled fabric with a velvet leaf attached to copper and painted with "calligraphic" marks inspired by a real leaf.

I'm also glad to say that  the "Components Box" is slowly emptying! Although i am also thnking i will have to create some new bits just *for* it :}

I'm building up a little stockpile of ATCs as well--i'm supposed to trade some on ATCsforAll.com, but for some reason, their system is not recognizing my email, my username or my password and i can't get in!!! There's also a gallery in Calgary that has a trade day each month, and i thought that would be a perfect way to introduce myself there to the arts community and to meet some new friends.

In between bouts of cleaning and packing, these are the perfect thing to keep my brain and hoofies occupied, without having to drag out everything that's already boxed :} So are the Exquisite Corpse pieces--i have been working on Vero's and Susan's!(Sorry no blog for Susan S.)

Speaking of which, is anyone interested in the second part of the cabinets of Dr Caligarlee thingie? (The first part was using the lipstick case in this entry.)

Yea...I thot maybe you had packed away the good doctor. I'd like to see some more. I think that's funny about you doing the ATCs the wrong size for that LONG.....*S*

Hey Arlee..I just thought you were being a free spirit with your atcs. Like plus-size inchies, you're doing minus-size atcs!!

Adding to your ATCs has not in any way detracted from their amazing-ness. Anyhoo, where are the ATC Commandments enscribed and who is the God of???

I'm not comfortable dealing which inches, although I have rulers in inches. So I'm glad to see that kind of oops by someone else :-)
Anyway, your atc are beautiful.

Hi Arlee,

I'd love to do a card trade with you. A 2"x 3" is cool by me. Let me know if you have anything to trade. I've never done a trade, so this would be a start for me!

Hi Arlee!
I wish you would have written about the ATCs...I would have been fine with 2 x 3!
Susan
PS All the postcards are now gone at CYBER FYBER! I'm thinking about doing another round though in May....for new traders. So far, 21 countries and 36 states in the USA have traded!

Good luck on your move. I dread moving. Your recent work, however, looks great. It seems to have a new energy...maybe from the move? I also like the idea of trading ATCs with a new group as a way to meet artistic types in your new home!
