About

I am a Canadian mixed media artist, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated.

no rest for the rust of me :}

 So far, i am happy, that is happy-ish, with this "base". It's the lovely saffrony piece that resulted from my fermenting rusty bits (from now on referred to as "RB", not "Rich Bitches", but "Rusty Bits") bucket (the one MIL dumped :}). I'm going to rewrap it with more pieces, but this time i think i will tie some of them in, for a more striated look---at least i'm HOPING that's what will happen. Rust dyeing is a real crap shoot with results that ultimately cannot be controlled, beyond placement of the objects.

Here are the results of the first rusting. Some of the edges are crisply defined and add a look of depth, a real illusion of layers, just gorgeous. I'm PRAYING the results can be replicated. Ha. I'm not holding my breath or keeping my hoofies crossed. I'm also hoping that the tie lines in the second Dunk will add the striations i want........

While Greyman tore car parts out of things today, in another visit to the Pick-n'Pull (junkyard/scrapyard/art supplier :}), i scoured the ground around for more interesting bits. I scrambled under beaters, on top of accordions, poked at engines with old hose bits, unscrewed things and had a blast. If my floral clients saw me ..............Scored some great stuff and can't wait to do the second tied dunk!

I have also decided that the developing "age spots" on my right wrist are not age spots, but RUST. I'd be happier with that!

Blogaversary and Give-away in 2 days!!!!!!! If you leave your email, it makes it easier for me to contact you. No one but myself can see them, so you will not be Phished!

Wonderful rust pieces. I love the top one that looks like a nut.

It IS a nut that's doing all the rusting.
*L*.......oh, sorry.....it's arlee

I have this nice rusty saw here that I keep thinking I'll wrap with some fabric one of these days......too many projects, too little......well, you know

I just had a horrible thought...I strongly suspect that my plea for possible fodder for rusting fell on deaf ears when the guys cleaned out for the garage sale and everything useable is gone. Crap!! Anhoo...your RB look phenomenal

This rusting epidemic is certsinly leaving its mark! I'm getting some wonderful fabrcis but have also managed to rust spot 2 t-shirts by forgetting to wear an apron - and it;s not an improvement - and have a rust-coloured patch outside the kitchen door, under the washing line. Thank goodness for Reduran or my hands would be orange, too!

I don't know about rust never sleeps. Do you ever sleep?

Like Sue I've managed to accidentally rust a few things, including the white (once) laundry sink - can't get marks out and the fabric rust results were a bit iffy (sigh).... y'know how it happens sometimes!

Linda, i think you are now Annie's "straight" woman in a comic duo :} Thanks both a ya!
MAryAnne, the wonderful thing about rust is that you can MAKE rust. Take some of his new-ish tools and use em :}
Liz and Sue, thank you! Sue, i don't use any chemicals, just the natural process, so it washes right off!
Jackie---between 3 and 317 am :} Second Tuesdays.
Irene, CLR might work on the sink---or just pattern it more and call it leopard spots, a new home dec style!

Oh yeah, Annie---the beauty of rust dye-ing is that you huck it in a bucket, forget about it for 2 or 3 days, rinse it out real good and add it to your stash :} Simple.

I like this and want to play with rust too......do you have any suggestions?

I really like these rust pieces, possibly enough to try the process, though I've resisted so far. Neil Young sang that rust never sleeps. It seems that when the rust bug bites, you're too busy hunting up iron bits and tossing them in wet buckets to get any sleep either! I really relate to the rust on the clothes: my early morning studio forays have deposited paint, gesso and medium on most of my "good" clothes. Unfortunately, I seldom notice until after I am at work. The Kindergarten students notice though. They are delighted that I'm as messy as they sometimes are!
