Sunday's remains of the day
Sun, July 6, 2008 at 8:08PM An experimental day, this morning i had started out by wiring several thin bars of rusty metal together, draping and wiring some material from a painters suit on to the "armature"(Not Tyvek, something else, like diaper liner stuff) painting it and then zapping it with my trusty heat gun, Princess. All "al fresco" as well---nice to be in the sun and the shade :} And no foosty smells. Or fires.
BAZORT. Garbage. Too frondy, too delicate, too apparent the "weave" of the "fabric. Nope nope nope. Sat outside under the patio umbrella and stared at it for half an hour. Nada.
Back downstairs--what haven't i tried yet that has accumulated from the Flower Mines garbage collection? Hmm, copper foil wrap. And i'm still in the mood to play with Princess.
VERY kewl. VERY VERY VERY KEWL!!! Bubbles better than Tyvek, easier to control, colour stays--three pages of notes and lots of brainstorming results. Can shape it, it sticks to itself, doesn't hole and shrinks nicely but manageably.TOTALLY KEWL. Works great as a "bead" as well!
Have a glass of juice under the patio umbrella. (Fresh air *and* art!)
Stare at the morning's failed experiment some more-------
------major AHA moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rewrapped the entire piece in foil, zapped it, layered and wrapped again, and again and again, zapping each time. Added paint, Xpanda, pieces of slate from Drumheller, fibrousy rayon bits as finer roots and now i have a tree-ish rooty looking base for something. Interestingly, the whole piece started with the narrow point as the bottom, but it wouldn't behave properly, and somehow turning it the way i'm showing you now is very evocative of an organic body form or object.
Now just have to figure out a top/head/pinnacle for it!
