About

I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I'm curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, this is my almost daily art journal, eccentric and eclectic, explorative and absurd.

sweating bullets

Now i know what that means. I spent an excruciating hour yesterday using Lalage to attach pieces of the heart to the base and i swear i sweated a bandolier's worth-----one stitch at a time in some cases going around those heavily beaded edges. I couldn't/wouldn't do the beading after as it's too difficult to move a drapey swathe of fabric around to put tiny elements on--the base is Deb's gorgeous damask and it has a lovely soft drippy hand that dances and shifts as it wants, kind of like trying to  put a stocking on one of those squishy kids toys. I was dressed in my coolest clothes as usual in the stoodio with the heat turned down and yet i could still feel drops popping on my forehead!

I broke only two beads, and fortunately they are tiny and porcelain so snapped fast before Lalage's needle did. I can't even find the spots where they are missing so am having to get out the magnifier to find those areas! And because the heart pieces were rather freeform to begin with, certain areas had to be gathered before they would fit into their space. Adds a great new dimension to some spots! BUT, ever tried gathering a heavily encrusted thick layered shape? Agony.

Pictures coming!
