ruffled capris done!!!!!!!!
Thu, May 29, 2008 at 02:48PM I can't wait to wear these! Now i have to find/make a blouse to go with them though :} There are wrinkles in the photo, needs final pressing---and the right side (facing you ) pocket does not have a line through it: it's actually a smaller pocket inside and peeking out of the larger bottom pocket.

Good post today too--got this from Nellie as a thank you for the Exquiiste Corpse:
Sometimes the gifts are wrapped SO perfectly, it's hard to open them! I love the way she tied the roving on as an extra little treat! And inside, luscious atc and buttons and squiggly spiral metal bits. Thank you Nellie!!!!
Next on my list of wearable art to creat from, inspiration wise, is this:
Also from the Jan/Feb/08 issue of Belle Armoire, this is by Erin Mahoney I like the tucks treatment, the outer facing and the tiny sequins scattered. Mine will have cap sleeves, an outside neck facing and cuffs on the little sleeves, a bit of beading and for the fabrics, i'm thinking of a sheer white with a tiny but widely spaced floral pattern tucked and stitched over a solid purple shell. This colourway shown is one of my favourites but i want something more summery.
HMMM, do you suppose i am committing Intellectual Property theft with these????????
I found a simple white cap sleeved blouse in white dotted cotton pique that i will wear with these. In fact, i plan on buying a couple of these and dyeing them too! Pics on Tues morn :} since everyone has asked ![]()
MAY/08 ruffled capris
Thu, May 29, 2008 at 11:02AM I LOVE these! I have one side "done", and i'm quite pleased with how they're turning out :} I used a drapey purple with a faint crinkle effect init--paid the magnificent sum of 3.94 for the fabric and 3 bucks for the gold lace:
My inspiration is in the previous post, from Magnolia Pearl. Yummy.
I discovered this site a looooong time ago when i was first doing wearble art in the late 90's---gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous--and very spendy---but oh so covetable!
MAY/08 i'm so easy.....
Thu, May 29, 2008 at 08:42AM To please, that is!!!! Greyman knows he doesn't have to buy me diamonds or chocolate---well, okay *some* chocolate :}---he just takes me to the hardware store, tool shop or junkyard and i'm perfectly happy. I can even make *myself* delerious with joy when i find little treasures CHEEPCHEEPCHEAP
Yesterday i found five of these "framed view presentation books" which are perfect for class plans, portfolio submissions, commissions and special projects. And these little charms! Notice the position of the two dancers legs--they actually swing a bit! Love the bugs and the cat too. And the little Egyptian Cat Goddess (Bast) is a perfect size for some mixed media pieces.
The gold lace is a couple of those cheap doilies---going on the bottom cuffs and pockets of a pair of capri's for work. Got the idea from this:
This image is from Belle Armoire's Jan/Feb/08 issue---these cuties are by Robin Brown/Magnolia Pearl Unfortunately, when i visited her website a week ago, a lot of the thumbnails of her delicious designs are loaded incorrectly on her site, so you'll get an error page. You can still drool on the teeny shots though!
Mine won't be quite as ruffly and are a darker brown, or maybe i'll make new purple ones, but i think it's so sweet!
I am going to enjoy today--i have the house to myself, as MIL is going out for the day--whoo hoo! See? i *am* easy :}
MAY/08 My brain hurts............
Wed, May 28, 2008 at 05:09PM I've spent the better part of today online, explaining and clarifying the Exquisite Corpse concept for the second round. I think the inside of my head is bleeding. My left brain is fighting with my right brain, my hoofies are worn down to the bone and i need a nice crumbly maggotty hero biscuit.....It's hard sometimes to be patient, and to be concise without sounding rude or abrupt. And of course, TONE is SO lost with the written word.....I've been lucky that some of the MO's have jumped in and one FP has been elevated to SP because she's so helpful and "getting" it so quickly!!!
I went out and bought myself some treats today for being such a good Grand Corpse Vizieress--will show you tomorrow after i scrape off the Mung and Clud:}
MAY/08 Intellectual Property issues
Wed, May 28, 2008 at 02:15PM I found this on Gwen Magee's blog again and am quite intrigued by these two sections:
"There is a greater possibility of theft and disputes concerning ownership
and use of IP than is the case with physical property. A physical object is stolen
only if its possession changes hands, whereas IP is deemed by law to be ‘stolen’
if without permission of its creator or owner, it is copied, imitated, adapted,
translated, displayed or used as an input or starting point for further inventive
or creative endeavour. It is even possible for IP to be considered stolen when it
is independently discovered or created! A forgery, counterfeit or pirated
version, even if better than the original, is theft, as it is based on stolen ideas,
expressions, concepts, or technologies."
"Industrial design. An industrial design (or simply a design) is the
appearance of the whole or part of a product resulting from features of, in
particular, the lines, contours, colours, shape, texture and/or materials of the
product itself and/or its ornamentation. Industrial designs, as objects of IP,
can usually be protected for up to a maximum of 15 or 25 years.
Example: A new textile pattern, or the unique shape of a piece of
jewelry can be protected as designs."
And i would think that would apply to Dotee dolls---- and my photos IF they were downloaded indiscriminately.

mixed media explorations of my own
Tue, May 27, 2008 at 01:22PM I can't quite put my finger on why i'm finding paper so much more fascinating lately than fabric. Perhaps because it's easier to find? More available everywhere and easier to buy? Cheaper? More colours and patterns and weights and types? Whatever it is, i've been amassing quite a collection of scrpas and bits!
I've brought home quite a bit of "garbage" from the flower mine---they laugh and shake their heads
, but i have them trained already to ask me if i want it before they throw it out! Everything from lutrador, cellophane, napkins and wrapping paper, old envelopes and cardstock has nestled into my bag for the journey to a far far better place :}
Today, while thinking about what form the second round of the Exquisite Corpse project is going to take, i started this:
I have been slobbering over the photos and techniques in Beryl Taylor's book, and realized that i haven't quite the confidence in my paper skills to start with such teeny modules as she does. I can work with A4 size, which is a "normal" piece of paper, so i had started a week ago with stitching 4 layers of the bright pink lutrador together, stamping it and stitching a figure to it, and collaging painted lace to one side. Hated it. Set it aside to stew.
I did like the bright colours though, and this morning as i was sorting out *real* garbage :} found a card that Jacqueline had sent with some ATCs awhile ago. PERFECT!!! I tore the edges around the main part (the rose) and carefully peeled off the backing so it was a little more malleable for stitching through. I discovered that stitching on the heavier greyed silver cardstock created a lovely perforated line for easier tearing, especially against the grain of the paper. Stuck a napkin layer, the black figured piece underneath and started stitching randomly. Some of the thread came up to the top from the bobbin but i like the texture so left it. Of course when i turned it upside down to add the snarls that had resulted on the back, it behaved itself and wouldn't twangle! C'est la vie.
I had found the flattened computer circuit board piece at the bustop and slapped it on top, because the silver in the rose was very machinelike and i wanted somehow to accent and catch that feel. Discrete beading to hold it on though--nuts and silver beads. Then i found the three long beads and they reminded me of capacitors.
I've wrapped some green wire and have to go outside for a little walk for some branches i thought were perfect to use in "something", to finish it. (Note to self--always grab what you see when you see it so you have it when you need it!!!)
This then will be the first module of a larger piece!
